How to Clean Up Facebook Profile with FaceWash

Do you have unprofessional or inappropriate content on your Facebook profile (now known as Timeline)? If so, you may be looking for an easy way to clean it up or remove it. Some people just don’t know how to separate business from pleasure when it comes to Facebook; they have a single account that’s used for both. Because of this, there’s sure to be a mix of both good and bad content.

So what do you do when you want to look professional to your colleagues, potential employers, or someone else, but you’re afraid that you have questionable content from months or even years ago? Well, you could manually look through your Timeline and photo albums, and then pick out the bad content – hopefully you won’t miss anything.

Introducing FaceWash
However, there’s an even easier method for this task thanks to a new Facebook application called FaceWash. As the website states, “this is your Face on the Internet, and you might need to Wash it.” That statement really says it all: sometimes you may post inappropriate content on the Web that you’ll later regret, and will need to clean it up.

So, let’s see how you can quickly and rather easily clean up and wash your Facebook profile page using this application.

Clean Up Facebook Profile

  1. Click “get started” on the home page and add the “Social Scrubber” app to your Facebook account.

Automatically Search for Questionable Content

  1. Click on the “Start” button to see your washable content.

Click on Start to see your washable content.

  1. After a few seconds, your results will be displayed on the page and it will be broken up into the following sections: your wall, your tagged photos, your photos, your liked links, your liked photo, your status updates, and your pages.
  2. You’ll see all of your “dirty” posts under each section; these are the posts that need to be cleaned/washed. You’ll see the offensive or alarming word(s) highlighted in green.

View all of your ‘dirty’ Facebook posts, which are separated by category.

  1. Each item is clickable, so you can click on an item that you want to clean and view it directly on Facebook. From Facebook you can edit or delete posts and photos, unlike pages that you may have liked in the past, etc.

Manually Search For Questionable Content

  1. Alternately, you can use the search bar at the top of the page to find custom text from your Facebook profile. For instance, maybe you want to see everything containing your ex’s name because you don’t want anything to do with them anymore. You can search for their name and see the status updates and/or photos mentioning them.

Use the search bar to find custom text.
This is just an example. For the record, Al Fance is my husband – not my ex!

  1. Just like above, you can click on each item and view it directly on Facebook. This allows you to remove all items mentioning a specific person, location, word, etc.

As you can see, FaceWash is used to simply scan/search your page for questionable content, and then display it to you in an organized format. Although you have to go to each post individually to edit or delete, it’s still a lot easier than having to search through your content manually.

I’ve found that FaceWash is also good for plain old reminiscing, since you can search for any keyword or phrase. If you want to look at old memories from the past (events, places, etc), then FaceWash is perfect for that as well.
